At that time, there were no options for me other than a bone marrow transplant or a stem cell transplant. My doctor recommended dupixent for me because it's one of the few drugs that has demonstrated effectiveness against my type of leukemia.
I started taking dupixent about two weeks after my diagnosis and continued for about six months before switching over to another drug called daratumumab (Arzerra). The switch from dupixent to daratumumab was not easy; however, it was worth it because daratumumab is better than any other medication available at this time.
In addition to being effective against my specific type of leukemia, dupixent also has great side effects! Side effects include fatigue, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, rash and joint pain (arthritis). These side effects usually occur during the first week or two of treatment but then subside once your body adjusts.
